Radio Raheem

Allow us to introduce you to Raheem. Raheem is an ORIGIN Graduate. In the video clip above, he grapples with one of the ORIGIN challenges. You will hear the voice of Khonsu, an ORIGIN Facilitator who supports Raheem through the activity.

The task is simple. Raheem is to climb into the trees. Then using a series of ropes, he has to get from one platform to another. He starts off confidently. Partway through the exercise he re-assesses the level of difficulty; he considers his physical reserves and he focuses his mind.

Khonsu and members of Raheem’s group watch-on. They are crucial to him completing the task. “Take your time”. “You are half way there”. “You can see the end”. “It’s not about giving up, at all.” Then finally, “Excellent Man”.

The smile at the end say’s it all.

  1. This is so inspiring “i wanna turn”

  2. Ayoola (one who is afraid of heights)

The importance of any journey is not just the length or time travelled but the challenges you meet along the way and how you deal with them; the people who are there with you; the impact of those words of encouragement; the lessons you learn when you miss a step; the comfort you get one there is someone there with you; and the feeling of elation and achievement at your journeys end. I travelled with you Raheem and am so proud you made it to the end so magnificently.

To Khonsu – what every young brother needs is knowledge that they have someone like you caring and guiding them with every step. Beautiful.

  4. A powerful example of encouraging our ability to overcome challenges. Negotiating ways to move forward on unstable ground and the support and encouragement to take the risks involved in moving forward. Another of Origin’s personal and community achievements. Feel I want to encourage my Gransons into origin.

  5. Excellent footage, such an instinctive moment of pure focus & courage – in reflection the narrative is a life metaphor broader than the obstacle course itself…
